This is a delicious way to enjoy fresh pears. It is nice enough for company, but so simple you can make it any night of the week.

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sugar, granulated

1 egg(s), large

1 cup milk, 2% fat, or whole

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup flour, all purpose

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

2 1/2 pears, fresh, peeled and sliced into eighths

1 tablespoon turbinado sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, ground, optional

1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting

Preparation

Lightly butter and sugar a 9 inch pie pan or cake pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a medium size microwave safe bowl. Add sugar to butter and whisk together. Add milk, egg, and vanilla to the bowl and whisk together. Add flour and baking powder and whisk together. Pour batter into prepared pie pan. Peel, core and slice pears into about 8 slices each. Arrange pear slices over top of batter. Mix Turbinado sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle over pears. Bake for approximately 1 hour until a toothpick placed in the center comes out clean. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Best served warm, and you can reheat individual pieces in the microwave later.
