Ham and Cheese Strata
Prep Time: 15 minutes plus 8 hours refrigeration time
Cooking Time: 1 hour
This is a crowd pleaser and a super easy make ahead breakfast or brunch main dish. Feel free to add a handful of veggies like mushrooms and asparagus to boost the nutrition if your crowd would like them.
9 egg(s), large
2 3/4 cups milk, 2% fat
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper, black, ground
12 slices sourdough bread, wheat
1 1/2 cups ham, deli, diced
1 1/2 cups cheese, sharp cheddar
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
3 green onion(s) , minced
cooking spray, olive oil type
Spray a large or 3 quart baking dish with cooking spray. In a large bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard and pepper. Place half of the bread in a layer on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer evenly on top of the bread slices half the ham, then half of the cheddar cheese, half of the parmesan cheese and then half of the green onion. Pour half of the egg mixture evenly over the layers. Repeat again starting with another layer of bread. Refrigerate overnight or for about 8 hours if possible. Pull strata from the refrigerator and let stand for about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 1 hour. Be prepared to cover with aluminum foil if the top becomes too brown.
