Baked Ziti

This is a great dish for a crowd and easy to bake and take to a pot luck. If you can't find Ziti in your market, substitute with Penne or other long pasta.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef, extra lean

12 ounces ziti pasta noodles, uncooked

1 cup sour cream, low fat or light

2 cups cheese, mozzarella, low moisture and part skim milk, shredded

1/2 onion(s), medium, chopped

32 ounces marinara sauce, already prepared, jar or deli

1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bring large pot of water to a boil and cook pasta according to package directions for al dente (usually about 10 minutes or so). Place a large skillet over medium high heat. Add ground beef and brown. Add onion and cook for about 5 minutes. Add marinara sauce and stir. Drain pasta and add to skillet and stir. Coat a 9X13 inch baking dish with cooking spray. Layer with half of pasta mixture, then half of sour cream, then half of mozzarella and half of parmesan. Repeat with another layer of each. Bake for 20 minutes until cheese is melted and casserole is heated through. Garnish with parmesan and fresh basil if desired.
