Slow Cooker Beef Stew

This takes a little time to prepare the stew in the morning, but it is nice to come home after a long day to a such a hearty meal. The slow cooker makes the stew meat so tender.

Ingredients

2 pounds beef stew meat

1/3 cup flour, all purpose

2 tablespoons canola oil or vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 pounds potato(es), red, halved

4 carrot(s), peeled, cut into 3

1 stalk celery, sliced

1 onion(s), medium, cut into 6 wedges

12 ounces beef broth or vegetable broth, low sodium

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, low sodium

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon pepper, black, ground

Preparation

Place flour in a zip lock bag. Add stew meat to the flour and seal the bag. Shake bag to coat meat. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Place stew meat in skillet in a single layer and brown for 2 minutes, turn and brown other side for 2 minutes, and season with salt and pepper. Place meat in bottom of slow cooker. Add carrots, potatoes, celery and onion to slow cooker. Mix broth and remaining ingredients together and pour on top of meat and vegetables. Place cover on slow cooker and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours. Cook times vary based on the slow cooker, size of the ingredients, and how full the slow cooker is.
