Cherries in a Port Sauce with Frozen Yogurt

We have many friends that ask for this recipe. This is a quick, yet delicious way to enjoy fresh cherries. You may also use frozen cherries in this.
1 pound(s) cherries, fresh or frozen
1 cup(s) port, ruby
1/4 cup(s) vinegar, balsamic
2 tablespoon(s) sugar
2 cup(s) frozen yogurt, vanilla, low fat
Remove the stems and the pits from the cherries. Place the port, sugar and vinegar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for about 15 minutes until sauce is reduced by half. Add the cherries and cook on simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until just starting to soften. Remove from the heat and pour into a bowl. Allow the cherries to cool to room temperature and serve over frozen yogurt. Optional: top with whipped cream or nuts.
